Last December 1, I was invited by Dermalogica to attend the awarding ceremony after their 2 day Middle East Conference. It is nice to know that companies like Dermalogica will always come up with innovative products and they remain true to training people who carry their merchandise.

The night belonged to the therapists, spas and salons that carry the products and I hope that the recognition that they received will only inspire them to become better :)

Part of starting my New Year right was to spring clean and host my first ever garage sale. It was not easy parting with clothes that I have worn once and some not even but it was something that I had to do for 1. I have no more closet space; 2. it is something more of a personal thing. To let of some items is like letting go of some things in your life that a. you don't need; b. that clutters you space that you can hardly breath! lol!

I want to thank my good friend, Gion Dolores for helping me to choose which outfits to keep to to toss and for visually merchandising my garage sale. :)

It was a great experience... the whole process from the selection to the merchandising to the actual selling. The great part was not from sales rather from being able to just let go of the items that you thought you cannot let go off. :)

Holiday Looks do not need to be Over The Top, most of the time, it just has to be polished and pretty, no heavy liner and dark shadows. Also, make sure that you avoid looking like a helmet head with loads of hairspray, touchable, silky hair is still best.

I LINED MY WAYERLINE WITH MAC'S FELINE AND APPLIED MIKYAJY'S LIQUID LINER ON MY LASH BED.

I APPLIED A SHIMMERY EGGPLANT SHADE, ALSO FROM COASTAL SCENTS' NEUTRAL PALETTE ON MY OUTER V AND BLENDED.

I ALSO LINED MY LOWER LASH LINE WITH THIS SHADE, PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE OTHER CORNER.

( THIS TECHNIQUE IS PERFECT FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE ROUNDED EYES AND WOULD LIKE TO ELONGATE THEIR EYES AND MAKE IT LOOK IT MORE CAT LIKE)

TO FINISH THE EYE SHADOW, I APPLIED THE SAME LID COLOUR ON MY BROW BONE.

I APPLIED THIS SOFT BROWN SHADOW ON MY CREASE FROM COASTAL SCENTS' NEUTRAL PALETTE.

TO SET, I APPLIED MIKYAJY'S BROW GEL.

FOR HIGHLIGHTING, I USED INGLOT'S AMC SHIMMER BRICK.

TO SET MY BASE, I USED MAC'S MINERALIZE FOUNDATION (LOOSE) WITH THE SPONGE THE CAME WITH WITH ON THE AREAS WHERE I GET THE MOST OILY.

FOR THE REST OF MY FACE, I JUST USED A BRUSH.

The Year was 1977, my birth year and Studio 54's. The hedonistic decade of the 70's saw Andy Warhol as the hotest artist around. Yves Saint Laurent shocked the world with Women of colour and pantsuits, Jerry Hall, Iman, Lauren Hutton dominated the fashion world and this exotic woman from the South of France captured the heart of Mick Jagger and became one of the Fashion Icons of all time, Bianca Jagger. Aside from amazing music, I loved the contrast of the 70's woman. There is the groupie, strike anywhere Penny Lane type and then there is the disco dancing diva who can party all night!

When I hear the word DIVA, there is only 1 person that comes to my mind, Diana Ross. The big hair and an even bigger voice. Glitter when used sparingly can bring out the Diva in you, now if only it can make us sing like her. :)

Timeless Beauties like Iman and Beyonce will always inspire Make Up Artists like myself. :)

If you guys have been with me since I started writing my blog, you know how obsessed I am with perfecting the skin and brows.

I wanted the focus to be on Milena's amazing features so I decided to keep the hair clean and simple with an updo.

I used 3 eyeshadows on the crease. When making a look like this, make sure that the colours looks as if they are melting into one another.

To make the crease more pronounced, I outlined it with a black liquid liner.

I skipped false lashes and used 2 coats of Benefit's They're Real Mascara on the top and bottom lashes.

The 70's and 80's produced legendary beauty Iman and I could not think of a better way to pay tribute to this woman who paved the way for other women of colour to take centre stage than by combining her signature look which is amazing skin and full lightened brows with one of today's beauty icons' more famous look, Beyonce's make up in Video Phone.

A week ago I attended Dermalogica's launch of their latest skin care range and like all of their other skin perfecting products, their newest line, The Clean Start Range promises to make you face the world with your most beautiful skin ever.

Although The Clean Start range is supposed to cater to the adoloscent's rather problematic skin, this is not to exclude women are no longer in their teens like yours truly. :)

I am not going to go in full detail about the products because there will be a more information packed post on a review about the line. :) However, let me tell you girls and guys that after day one, my skin looked and did feel cleaner and clearer. :)

It was the year when Guns N' Roses released their Use Your Illusion Albums that I got fixated on getting inked. The anklet of roses that adorned the ankle of Stephanie Seymour was the one that did it for me.

Eons after and I am still ink free! lol! The idea of getting a tattoo was always there, however, since it is not make up that I can easily take off with a make up remover, I had to make sure that whatever will be inked on my body will be something that is significant to me. And then of course, I have to think of the part of my body where I will have it.

Giving birth and being a mother is a life changing experience. I can be a Make Up Artist/Stylist now but decades after I will no longer be doing this, however, I will always be a mom. This was when the design of my tattoo was born. :)

I thank my tattoo artist, Mac Mac for being so patient and for giving me all the tips post inking. :)

DUBAI FASHION WEEK'S DESIGNER LINE UP.

With the founder of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week at the helm of this year's Dubai Fashion Week, I find myself getting excited at the thought of attending this year's series of shows.

During the recently held Dubai Fashion Week Media Launch, Simon mentioned the efforts that they have put into creating a Fashion Week that will cement Dubai's stake on being the Fashion Capital of the Middle East.

Aside from looking forward to seeing the improvements that Mr. Lock has implemented, I am aslo interested in seeing the improvement(s) of the Dubai Fashion Week goers. I wonder if I will still be seeing price tags on women's shoes, how about bejeweled clamp clips strategically placed on top of women's heads, visible panty lines and the list goes on and on.

I am, of course looking forward to seeing each designer's collection and although I do love seeing haute couture pieces and its intricate workmanship, I also want to see more RTW.

It is less than a month till we officially open Dubai Fashion Week, so, I urge all attendees to shine their shoes, put together your most fashionable ensembles, sharpen your senses, brush up on your vocabulary, cover and write about the Dubai Fashion Week with objectivity.

Whether you are a blogger or a writer, it is your responsibility to let them know what it is that you have seen, good or bad. Tell it like it is and show them that Fashion is not about superficiality rather it is an imitation of what really goes around, so, people, let's keep it real this time :)

One of the things that I love about Autumn/Winter, aside from the cooler breeze is that we get to wear bolder colours, in our ensemble and on our faces as well.

Autumn is synonymous to warm colours like pumpkin, browns, olive greens and burgundy, and that is probably what you are expecting me to create since we are ushering the new season, however, I want to focus on a colour that I believe looks fantastic on all skin tones... Lilac. :)

Last month I told you all about my joining the Vocal Guild to regain my lost voice and to learn proper breathing techniques. On our 2nd week, our talented Voice Coaches asked us to prepare the song piece that we would like to sing for our recital. I had originally picked Irene Cara's song from FAME, "Right Here on My Own', however days before the recital, I had an epiphany. :)

I am a huge Madonna fan. :) I loved her during her Material Girl Days to her Masculine days and of course now. I am in awe whenever she performs. She is the one and only Queen of Reinvention. Aside from these amazing qualities as an artist, I admire the causes that she championed over the years.

Among all the looks that Madonna has sported, I have to say that her portrayal of Argentina's Spritual Leader, Evita Peron is my favourite. :) My voice will never be as great as hers, but Madonna's boldness inspired me to get on that stage, sing my heart out and finally cross out of one of my " MUST DO's IN LIFE" and that is to sing infront of a crowd.

Reinvention is not just about a new look , it is also about rediscovering yourself and perhaps some of your lost talent to make you a better and bolder version of yourself :)

Do you remember the day Revlon's Colorstay Lipstick was launched? I think I was in 1st year College when it came out and I can still remember everyone wanted the color Cocoa. Revlon's Colorstay reintroduced to the 90's the Make Up Must Have of the 80's... Matte Make Up.

Over time, the beauty industry realised the maturing effects of Matte Make Up and with a society that is so fixated on youth, we shelved all of our Colorstay lipsticks and succumbed to the alluring shine and youthful promise of the lip gloss and everything shimmery.

With the Fashion capital's runway filled with rehashed and reinvented classic pieces, one will not wonder if once again, we will see the texture of Make Up that made Cindy Crawford larger than life

After looking at several collections to find inspiration for my first feature, I have decided not to focus on the themes of the designers instead I decided to focus on the multitude of textures that I saw. Your sense of touch will run amuck with the richness of fur, the decadence of leather and cheeky glam of sequins.

Choosing the pieces was half the battle, I felt that choosing the right location to shoot this editorial feature was an integral part in letting the texture of the clothes shine even brighter. I would like to thank my great photographer, Michael Velasco for suggesting that we head to Ras Al Khaimah's ghost town to shoot and to say that I am happy to have seen the contrast is perhaps my understatement of the year. :)

We shot all these rich fabriced clothes in September and to say that it was HAWT is again another understatement! But boy am I glad that we did it! Major thanks to my aunt for accompanying me and for being around to hand me a tissue when the sweat starts trickling down.

Anyway, I am not going to keep this long. I hope you all like my first feature and I'll see you all soon. :)

EMBRACE THE SEASON OF REINVENTION

Can you believe that 2011 is almost over? It seemed as if it was yesterday, when we were saying goodbye to 2010 and ushering in 2011. Time does fly when we are having fun and fun is exactly what we had for the last 8 months. As we bid adieu to the sweltering summer heat and hopefully welcome the cooler breeze, I realised that one of our greatest Human qualities is our ability to adapt to our environment, the situation that we find ourselves in. In our efforts to adapt to factors affecting our lives, we, in turn learn the most fashionable thing in the world... the power of reinvention. I see no more befitting tribute to this ever present fashion trend of REINVENTION than to dedicate the next 2 months solely to this.

The Runways from New York to Paris were filled with reinvented classic pieces from all eras. Ralph Lauren's take on 30's Glamour was apparent with his fur stoles, dramatic beading on the bodice, floor skimming hemlines and who can say to those gorgeous hats? In contrast to Ralph Lauren's glamour was Miu Miu's fresh take on the 40's key pieces. From the coiffed hair to the bright red lips, structured purses and of course to their eye catching brightly coloured day dresses. I want to term most of the collections that I have seen as Reinvented Femininity.

Michael Kors' bright skirt suits though kept a very modest hemline hugged all the right places that would leave Marilyn Monroe blushing. And Frida Giannini's reinvention of the decadent decade of the 70's was simply awe inspiring. From those diaphanous chiffon dresses which will remind you of a younger Angelica Houston in the 70's to those rich fur collection in every colour and cut possible.

It was not just the classic pieces of bygone eras which were reinvented during the last RTW shows, you will see eyeliners artfully applied reminiscent of the punk rock decade of the 80's to the spiky eye lashes that screams Veruskha. Seeing things come back into fashion is an exhilirating experience for a stylist and a mother like me. Rest assured that my close will be open to my daughter to explore when she is older.

So, whether you are leaving, coming back, cutting it off or growing it out, moving out or moving on, stick around because this month will be a journey like no other. It will be yours, mine.... It will be Our Reinvention.

Hi Everyone! What have you all been doing? I am so happy to let you all know that I am preparing a very special September and October special for my blog. :) I cannot really spill the details right now but since we are almost in September, the wait is not going to be that long anymore.

Anyway, to more immediate news, I have been busy with something other than Make Up and Styling lately. No, it is not cooking and baking, however, I will certainly make time to make another batch of baked goodies.

Ready for this?! I joined The Vocal Guild! And I am very happy to have regained my 'lost' voice! :) In just 3 sessions, I learned just how important proper breathing is to singing. Now, I can sing all day (well, not really) and not feel the strain on my throat.

Last weekend, we had our photoshoot as we are officially launching the guild this September with a recital concert and I have chosen an 80's song from one of my favourite movies, FAME, hence the oversized shirt. You can't really see the leg warmers in this photo but I shall post the other photos once I get them.

Anyway, I got to go now. Hope that you are all keeping safe and stay fab as always. :)

I USED MAC'S TEDDY TO PRIME MY EYE LID. I ALSO APPLIED THE LINER ON MY LOWER LASH LINE. FOR THE WATERLINE, I USED MAC'S FELINE.

I USED THE DARKEST SHADE OF BROWN ALL OVER THE LID AND FOLLOWED UP WITH A MEDIUM BROWN SHADE ON THE CREASE.

I USED BOTH SHADES OF SHADOW TO SMUDGE ON THE LOWER LASH LINE.

FOR THE BROW BONE HIGHLIGHT I USED A SHADE THAT IS A CROSS BETWEEN GOLD AND GREEN.

I CURLED MY LASHES AND APPLIED 2 COATS OF L'OREAL DOUBLE EXTENSION MASCARA ON MY UPPER AND LOWER LASHES.

LATELY, I HAVE BEEN USING MY LIGHT BROWN BROW PENCIL FROM BEN NYE BECAUSE I HAD MY HAIR COLOURED. I ALSO USED BENEFIT'S BROW ZINGS IN LIGHT AND I SET MY BROWS IN PLACE WITH MIKYAJY'S BROW GEL.

I USED COASTAL SCENTS' CONTOUR AND BLUSH PALETTE TO CONTOUR MY CHEEKBONES. I USED IT ALSO TO PROVIDE A MATTE HIGHLIGHT.

I APPLIED THE LIGHTER OF THE 2 PINKS ON THE APPLES OF MY CHEEKS.

I PRIMED MY SKIN WITH L'OREAL STUDIO SECRETS AND USED MY GRAFTOBIAN WARM PALETTE. I COVERED MY DARK CIRCLES SOME REDNESS AROUND MY NOSE WITH MY COASTAL SCENTS CONCEALER PALETTE.

I SET THE BASE WITH MY BENEFIT HELLO FLAWLESS POWDER.

Everyone loves neutrals... the rich browns, creamy beiges, soft ecrus, that it comes as no surprise when we see Make Up Companies produce palettes upon palettes of these wonderful shades. And again, you see Make Up Artists produce a number of great looks ranging from the most natural to the most dramatic with the same palettes.

Having clean, clear and fresh looking skin is every woman's dream. So many companies invest in research, some in the amazing photoshop skills of their ad agencies and what's bad is that we, women get swayed into buying these products because we see a poreless face or we see this phrase...'revolutionary ingredient', 'age defying'.

Thanks to companies like Sigma, who produces products and tools which are effective, does not make unrealistic promises and most of all affordable. In my quest to find new products and tools to help more women achieve better looking skin, I stumbled upon Sigma's Cleansing and Polishing Tool. I purchased mine from http://www.laylam.ae/ for AED 250.00 (+/-USD 68.00). At that time I was searching for Clarisonic here in the U.A.E. but found out that no Spa uses them here.

The Cleansing and Polishing tool will work with 2 double A batteries and is water resistant but not water proof, meaning you should not use this while you are enjoying your bubble bath in the tub.

CLEAN AND POLISH NOW...

The first step is to pick the brush that you want to use. Personally, I think that I will only use the all pink brush because I find the skin on my face too thin and any brush with bristles that are stiffer than the all pink brush may do more damage than good.

Moisten your face with water.

Put a small amount of your favourite cleanser on the brush. Press the pink button for the desired speed and massage your face in slow circular motions. Keep the process under 1 minute.

Rinse, pat dry, see and fee the difference. :) Since I wanted to be very objective, I asked my aunt if she noticed any difference and she said that my skin looked brighter and it was softer. :) If your skin is slightly peeling, it gets rid of the flakes making your skin ready to absorb the vitamins of your favourite moisturiser.

Make sure that you rinse the brush heads very well and that it dries thoroughly before you store it.

All in all, Sigma's Cleansing and Polishing Tool is a great buy and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking at improving the condition of their skin or to those who simply want to maintain it. :)

Four years ago I met 2 lovely ladies, who, over time has proven to be instrumental in my survival here in Dubai.

As an expatriate woman here in the sandpit, there is only 1 thing that I suggest that one must find and keep and that is a solid circle of girlfriends. (aside from your job. lol!)I am lucky to have been blessed with 2 circles of friends who I know will be there no matter what and the circle that I had formed with Djhoanna and Ann is one of the 2.

Four years of friendship may not be a lot ot some people but the 4 years that I have with these lovely girls will turn to 8 and then to 12 then 16 and so on!

I feel lucky to have shared my goof moments with these girls... My, "this is my cart moment." to my Qatar airways monologue and to my bolo wielding, Gabriella Silang moment! lol!!! Yes, I am proud of that and I will do it again if someone dares to say anything bad against the 2 of you.

Four years ago in the balcony of our apartment we wrote down our wishes and thank God to Ann, she reminded us that they are slowly coming into fruition. My only hope is that as we realise them one by one, that we will still be around for each other as we make and fullfill our new hopes and wishes!

There was a week where I was running around all the malls desperately looking for a dry brush. That was the same week where I was also searching for a Spa that offers lymphatic drainage facials. You may ask as to why I was obssessing about 2 very different things. But what see to be 2 different things do have something important in common.

Dry brushing when done correctly and regularly stimulates the lymphatic system. When our lymphatic system gets stimulated our immune system gets stronger and it gets easier to detox. A lymphatic drainage facials rids our faces of edemas. There are occassions when we wake up in the morning looking bloated. Having lymphatic drainage facials helps get rid of that problem. It also clears sinuses. :)

Dry brushing is simply exfoliating your skin using a dry, natural bristled brush. Note that your skin has to be dry as well.

This technique promotes healthier skin by removing dead skin cells on the surface. Once the dead skin cells are removed skin cell production begins. Like what I said earlier, the benefits of dry brushing are not just skin deep as it helps in detoxification and it increases blood flow.

Dry brushing starts with selecting the right brush. Look for natural bristled brushes. I found mine in Dubai Mall, its a drugstore on the lower level. Forgot the name. I got it for AED 15.00 (USD +/- 4.00) I like it coz it has a handle and you can also detach it from the handle.

Start with the bottom of your feet, move the brush in soft, circular movements towards the heart. After the bottom, move to the top of your feet.

I suggest that you work on each leg, doing the back and then the front, all the way to your buttocks. You may want to avoid the delicate inner thigh area.

Once you are done with the lower half, you can now start dry brushing your palms, back of the hand, forearm and biceps. Do not forget to move to in soft circular motions towards the heart.

Having a long handled brush is great for dry brushing you back. Start with your lower back, moving up.

The last portion will be your stomach, you have to start dry brushing from your abdomen and work your way up. Again, steer clear from the sensitive areas.

Once you are done, you can rinse and shower as usual and enjoy cleaner, silkier and smoother skin :)

OH HOW I LOVE J LO'S FULL BROWS IN THE VIDEO! I TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY UP MY BROWS AND I HAD FUN MAKING MINE THICKER.

I USED BEN NYE'S BROW PENCIL TO OUTLINE THE NEW SHAPE OF MY BROWS AND TO MAKE IT LOOK MORE NATURAL I APPLIED BENEFIT'S BROW ZINGS IN LIGHT.

IN THE INTO YOU VIDEO, J. LO'S FACE WAS SO SCULPTED, THEREFORE CONTOURING IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THIS LOOK.

I USED MY CONTOUR AND BLUSH PALETTE FROM COASTAL SCENTS.

HER CHEEK COLOUR WAS BARELY THERE, I APPLIED THE LIGHTEST PINK ON THE APPLES OF MY CHEEKS.

It has been a while since my last Make Up Look Post, I have been busy organising the 3rd Season of FACES, however, last weekend I was able to do a make up look that I have been dying to recreate since seeing its video.

Aside from being able to do this look, I was also able to spend time with my great friend and amazing photographer, Danabelle, who took the fab photos by the way. :)

Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

In my commitment to share information and experience beyond Beauty and Fashion, I started looking for other areas that we, women and men alike, hold important to us and I don’t know why I have not even written anything about Fitness and Exercise. What was I thinking?!

Not so long ago, I used to go to the gym regularly. (Really, I did!) Infact, I even hired a personal trainer, but then I left for Paris and you know what happens in Europe… you start trading your love affair with the treadmill to leisurely walks in the jardin or the minutes spent exploring the amazing collections at the Louvre or simply shopping in Champs Elysees. :). Since then, I have gotten used to not exercising even now that I have come back to Dubai.

I am not a health buff (you know that by now coz I love cooking as much as eating) but it does not mean that I do not watch what I eat. I am not a gym freak either but I do value the importance of getting your heart rate up and sweating, however, I just realized that spending hours in the gym no longer excites and motivates me.

My search for an alternative way to keep fit brought me to Club Stretch where I was introduced to Bikram Yoga.

Just to give you a brief background, Bikram Yoga, is a 26 posture series practice which was founded by Bikram Choudhury while he was rehabilitating his knee due to an accident.

The 90 minute session is conducted in a heated room to properly warm the muscles. The 26 Hatha Yoga poses are designed to warm and stretch your muscles in the order which they should be stretched.

Because the room is intentionally kept warm, your muscles will not be traumatized from the stretching. The heat also prevents injuries. Aside from the benefits to your muscles, the heat also promotes sweating which aids in flushing out the toxins from your body.

With regular practice you can expect reduced cholesterol, stronger bones, improved digestive and circulatory systems, corrected and strengthened immune system and of course reduced stress and increased focus and concentration.

I looked like a drenched cat after my session but I felt amazing! I was flushed from the steam and it seemed as if my eyes were brighter. I have to admit that I was not sure as to how my muscles would feel the following day but surprise surprise…. No aches and pains!

I loved the results of my 1st Bikram Yoga session, how my body felt after (felt very light) and I felt so calm. It was as if nothing could stress me out. :)

Bikram Yoga is definitely worth checking and trying out for an alternative to the usual time spent on the treadmill and pumping iron in the gym.

I was home for the last 2 days recovering from a combination of fatigue and viral pharingitis. No, I was not always singing in the shower, though I do belt out a few hits here and there. lol! I think it was caused by being out and experiencing the glaring heat of Summer in Dubai and then going inside malls and any buildings for that matter who have their Air Conditioning Units on Steriods!

As much as I wanted to post articles that are beauty related, having a runny nose and red eyes prevented me from posting more incriminating photos of myself.

Aside from Make Up and Styling, not a lot of people know of my passion for cooking. I love to cook as much as I love to eat! hehe. This passion runs deep in my family. I used to stay up late with my Mama Nita in her kitchen while she whips out her pots and pans, rolling pins and a myriad of ingredients to make her Sansrival, Swiss Roll, Meringue and so much more goodies!

While I was thinking of what to make for Dinner, Wednesday night, my Magnolia Bakery Cook Book winked at me. It was kind of hard to choose what to make but later decided on Chocolate Brownies with Cream Cheese Icing :)

SAFE TANNING AND ENJOY THE BEACH

I am a certified beach bum! I am guilty for loving the sun's rays on my face while I bury my toes in the warm white sand of the beaches of Dubai and then loosing myself in the calmness of the ocean. Though I love the sun's mood enhancing effect, I do not overlook its damaging effects on my skin. Number don't lie when they say that 1 in 6 of us will develop skin cancer and 90% of the reason is due to prolonged and unprotected UV exposure. Aside from skin cancer the sun's rays is also responsible for premature aging, hyper pigmentation and malignant melanoma.

I guess, you all know where this post is leading :) If I sound OC (Obsessive Compulsive for those of you who don't know what OC stands for, Obsessive Compulsive for those of you who do know what it stands for, Obsessive Compulsive for... Oh You Get the Idea! :) )there is. just no better word to describe myself) about skin care, believe me when I say that I am just as OC when it comes to protecting my skin, as should you.

Choosing a your Sunblock is like choosing a night cream. You have to look at the ingredients, it should not just protect your skin from the sun's rays, it should also give you some extras like antioxidants to help in fighting free radical activity linked to cancers and aging.

There are a few myths about sun exposure and please indulge me in debunking them :)

MYTH 1: Cloudy skies provide protection from the harmful sun.

FACT: The sun has several types of UV Rays UVA, UVB and UVC just like Hepatitis (oops! I am watching too much HOUSE!) These different types of rays contribute to multiple signs of aging. Just because you don't see the sun does not mean it cannot reach your skin.

SOLUTION: Use a sun product that doubles as a moisturiser

MYTH 2: Sensitive Skin react badly to SPF

FACT: Having sensitive skin means being more prone to sun damage, therefore, using an SPF is imperative in maintaining your youthful skin.

SOLUTION: When selecting a sun product look for these ingredients: titanium oxide or zinc oxide. These ingredients do not irritate unlike their chemical counterparts.

I hope that this post won't darken your Sunny Summer Days. Armed with this knowledge now you can freely and safely tan... more than just your beach bum!

Hi Every one! I hope that you are all having a great weekend. I just want to share with you my experience in working for the Dubai adaptation of The West Side Story last week.

As a Make Up Artist, it is great to experience all forms of medium where your skills can be used. You always learn something new whether it will be in enhancing your skills of just you in total :)

Working on the Production gave me the an opportunity to work with world class performers like Ms. Shona White who gave a stellar performance as Anita and Ms. Elisa Doughty whose amazing voice is proof that she is 'Grace Under Pressure' personified.

Like all productions, West Side Story was not without challenges and I would like to thank my assistant Erl for being a great help, Jenny McCranie, Theatre Manager for putting out a lot of fires and of course to my Hunny for being the great man behind the great woman that he sees in me :)

The entire months of June and July have been an amazing experience for me. It was not only about sharing tips and pieces of advice to would-be brides, but it was also about reliving those joyous moments where life and love is celebrated.

I have been listening to this CD called Zen Zone 3 recently and the beautiful guitar rendition of Oscar Lopez inspired me to create a Spanish inspired look for an evening bride.

I basically used the same products from the Pretty and Simple Bridal look, the only difference is that I defined the crease more and of course I used a fiery red lipstick.

I parted my hair in the middle and had it in a low chignon to complete the look. :)

There is nothing like a bride who looks radiant because of make up that is barely there. I always tell my brides my their look for their big day should not make them look different, rather it should be a prettier version of themselves.

This look is so simple, I only used 2 shades of eye shadows. The base application did not require so much products as well.

When Napoleon said that a picture is worth a thousand words, he must have been referring to photos taken during events where emotions are so raw - events such as your wedding day!

A great wedding photographer should be able to capture the wedding in its entirety; the mood, the ambiance, the emotions from the key players of your wedding, so much so that when your family and friends flip through your photos, they will be able relive that glorious moment. When you look at those photos, you should be reminded of how you felt that day when you walked down that aisle (and noticed that your groom is missing :) Ooopps! Wrong Blog! hihihihi!) Seriously though, you should be reminded of how you felt that day when you made that promise to love that special person for better or for worse.

Covering an event that is as multi-faceted as a wedding requires a photographer who is physically, mentally and technically prepared. According to veteran photographer, Michael Velasco, "There is little margin for error when covering weddings." The photographer should be light on his feet to cover the ceremony as it progresses, but still conspicuous so as not to interfere with the ceremony.

When choosing a someone to visually document your big day, Danabelle Gutierrez, freelance photographer and a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography (NYIP) suggests that you look at the prospective photographer's full coverage of at least 1 to 2 weddings, instead of snippets of various weddings. It is easy for any photographer to get a lucky shot here and there; what YOU want is consistency especially if you have ceremonies running all day.

You should ask your friends for referrals. Good wedding photographer's are always spread by word of mouth.

Couples, beware of photographers who are charging too low for their services. If the deal sounds too good, chances are, the service is not. This is your big day and you cannot afford to have your photos look out of focus. Having a good photographer is as important as having film in the camera, if you know what I mean. It might appear as if the photos are being taken but in reality nothing is being recorded.

If your budget permits, hire a back up photographer (better safe than sorry) However, if budget is tight, you may wish to consider new photographers who will gladly cover your wedding for free to add to their portfolio.

Furthermore, please ensure that the photographer provides you with a comprehensive, detailed list of deliverables. This may be in a form of an official contract or a list of all what the photographer will provide. This way each of you are clear on what is expected.

So, in 10 years from now, when you may be cringing over today's fashion trends or oohing and ahhing over the expression of your husband-to-be when he saw you in your your gorgeous wedding gown... it is all about reliving THAT moment.... everyday, sometimes just to give you the butterflies in your stomach or just because you never want to forget why you said 'I do' in the first place. :)

JUNE BRIDE SPECIAL: ABSOLUTE BLISS AT DERMALOGICA DUBAI MALL

If you look up the word BLISS in any dictionary, you are bound to find DERMALOGICA's BRIDAL PACKAGE, and if by any chance you don't see it, close your eyes real tight and imagine an invigorating 3 hour journey into a radiant new you :)

When I embarked on my June Bride Blog Special, I wanted to write several articles on skin care and how to get the Bride's skin looking its absolute best. In order to do that, I had to look at my own beauty products stash and see which brand I own the most. I am not discounting other great brands out there, however, it was my switch to Dermalogica that rescued and revived my skin to its original glory.

My pampering started at exactly 2pm when I arrived at Dermalogica's Flagship Store in Dubai Mall. I was cheerfully greeted by their wonderful staff, given a refreshing glass of lemon water (which is great when you are detoxing) as I filled in my Client Information Sheet. It was not long before my therapist, Zippi, ushered me into one of their treatment rooms to conduct the consultation in private.

Zippi briefed me about the treatments that I was about to receive while I silently salivated at every detailed description! :) I could not wait!!!

To start my series of treatments, Zippi dry brushed my skin to evaluate its current state and use the appropriate products for my skin type. According to Zippi, the light of the treatment room further enhances the total experience. So, we flipped through red, blue, violet and I finally settled into a mixture of green and blue. Zippi explained that I am a pretty stubborn lady who is rather easy going. :) So before I could contradict her, I just decided to let it go. Hihihihi!

With the lights set and the treatment room filled with the aroma of eucalyptus essential oil, I was ready to dive into a pool of beautifying pleasures.

My BRIDAL PACKAGE started with the Body Foliation Therapy. As someone who is used to all kinds of scrubs, I was pleasantly surprised not to feel harsh beads scraping my skin. Zippi explained that Dermalogica's Exfoliating Scrub has Exfoliant Accelerator which makes buffing away dead skin faster. After rinsing, I had to touch my skin to make sure that a very mild body scrub can actually do the work and it did! My forearm felt as smooth as silk.

A delicious smelling oatmeal and milk body wrap followed my exfoliation. After being fully wrapped in this sweet, aromatic concoction, Zippi wrapped my entire body in plastic and secured it with a thermal jacket to make sure I keep warm and for the vitamins and minerals of the mud wrap to get absorbed well into my skin.

I felt so relaxed and before you know Zippi has started on my Facial. In as much as I want to give you all ladies a detailed account of the facial, I sadly could not because I fell into a state of complete relaxation.... I fell asleep! If my memory serves me right, I had more than just CTM, there were several creams in different textures and smells that caressed my face and after 75 minutes, I have to tell all of you ladies, and take my word for it that my skin could not have looked and felt any better.

Being the Doubting Thomas that I am, I got dressed and went out of the treatment room just to make sure that I was not seeing things. I inspected my skin using one of their mirrors in the counter and finally embraced the fact that I was not seeing things, my skin was actually brighter and I hate to brag it but, boy I looked radiant!

But just don't take my word for it. Each one of us should treat the largest organ in our body to this kind of 'Dermalogica' pampering that it rightly deserves.

Every bride's dream is to ensure that the Groom shows up (joking.) And when you see your handsome husband-to-be, you want to make sure you look your most beautiful!. However, the stress involved in preparing for one of the biggest days of your life, can wreck havoc even on a Supermodel's skin. For me, there are two things that a bride-to-be should prepare for six months prior to the big day. First, is getting into shape. Whether you need to lose a few pounds, tone up, or gain some weight, six months is ideal so that crash dieting doesn't have to be an option (can have adverse side effects such as dizzy spells, halitosis etc); and taking miracle pills just doesn't work.

Second thing that a bride-to-be should prepare for six months prior, is getting her skin in top condition. As you will be the focus of everyone's attention, I cannot stress enough how important having great skin will be. No amount of foundation will cover your acne or other skin conditions that may require a skin experts' attention.

SIX MONTHS BEFORE

A deep cleaning treatment is something a bride-to-be should consider having to make her glow, not only during her wedding day, but especially during those stressful moments. There's nothing like grace under pressure. During this phase where the skin is encouraged to detoxify, the bride may suffer from breakouts. Her skin specialist should be able to prescribe a regimen that the bride can use at home.

I remember when I went home recently for a holiday, and saw my Dermatologist, I had two Diamond Peel sessions with her. Though this did not cause me to break out, Dr. Palabyab still gave me her Acne Gel just in case one or two pimples suddenly rears its ugly head to drive me ballistic LOL!

You may also decide to invest in a gentle cleanser during this phase, such as Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel. Since your skin is detoxifying, make sure to invest in a good moisturizer with a built-in SPF, preferably not less than 30. To help aid your skin to repair itself and shield it from the harmful rays of the sun, why not try Dermalogica's Dynamic Skin Recovery with SPF 30.

TWO TO FOUR MONTHS BEFORE

This phase is more area/problem centered, therefore treatments are stronger. If you want to address fine lines, a Galvanic Facial is something you may consider. Another treatment that is gaining popularity is the IPL treatment. This used to be just for hair removal, however several Dermatologists now use this treatment to help reduce the size of pores, eliminate and/or reduce marks. After the detoxifying stage, the skin is ready to receive Vitamin A, C and E, and botanical brighteners. Every bride has a best friend, and skin-wise, this is equivalent to Dermalogica's Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask. I have tried this and absolutely recommend to any women who simply wants to have radiant skin.

Apply the masque on clean, dry skin, wait for 20 minutes to dry. You have to sleep with the masque on, and remove the next morning, to avoid scaring the Starbucks baristas while ordering your Latte LOL! And believe me, your glow will compete with any sunny day in Summer :)

ONE TO TWO MONTHS BEFORE

As the big day approaches, expect sudden break outs (Murphy's Law). Times like these, you may want to switch to a gentler cleanser to avoid harsh exfoliants. Scrubbing too much is not going to make the pimples disappear. In fact, this may do more harm than good. Stripping your skin of its natural oils will make it over produce oil to compensate for what it has lost, therefore causing you to breakout even more. To calm yourself, go for weekly aromatherapy massages using lavender oil as it is known for its calming effects.

This is also a good time to invest in skin care products that have anti oxidants. Most serums are packed with these miracle workers. Serums help your moisturizers work faster and help your skin soak up all the vitamins in your skin care products, making it easier for you to achieve its promises.

TWO WEEKS BEFORE

2 weeks before the big day is not the best time to experiment with new treatments. the most that I will recommend it to have a facial that gently massages the face to promote better blood circulation. A treatment that can be considered is the Lymphatic Facial. This treatment lightly manipulates the fluid under the skin which helps drain excess fluid and waste protein. Having the treatment once a week helps reduce the puffiness, hyper pigmentations and even acne break outs. the reason as to why i recommend this treatment is that it is non invasive, no pricking required, but highly effective as it works with the body's natural processes and brings balance to the skin.

You can also schedule your waxing around this time, plus a nice body scrub. Additionally, a relaxing massage is essential, to help you say, "I Do" without a single moment's hesitation. hehehehehe.

Wake up, open the curtains to greet the day (pray that its not cloudy with rain pending) with a nice, big smile and savour your last day as a Ms. and look forward to the new title of being Mrs. :)
